EVANSTON, Ill – IUPUI men's tennis was handed two defeats on Sunday (Feb. 18) by Northern Illinois and Northwestern.
 
IUPUI (4-6) is still looking for its first win of the season away from the West Indy Racquet Club after falling to the two Illinois schools.
 
The day began in DeKalb, Ill., with the Jags taking on Northern Illinois. IUPUI was able to earn one match win in doubles play with the team of David Beasley and Grant Esposito winning the No. 3 match 6-3. The other two matches also finished 6-3, but in favor of the Huskies.
 
In singles play, the lone Jaguar win came from Ethan Mardanus-Budiono who won the No. 6 singles match 7-5, 6-2. Beasley was the only other Jaguar to win a set, taking the second in his No. 3 singles match but fell 10-7 in the third.
 
The Jags finished their night in Evanston against Northwestern. The Wildcats won the No. 1 and 3 matches 6-0 to take the doubles point. Beasley and Grant Esposito were up 4-2 in their No. 2 match when it was called.
 
In singles play, Northwestern earned three more points quickly to end the match with the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 singles finishing with the Jags only earning one game win.
 
IUPUI will continue to look for its first road victory of the season when the Jags travel to Saint Louis on Friday (Feb. 23).
