CLEVELAND - IU Indianapolis closed out the regular season this past weekend, dropping a pair of Horizon League matches on the road to Youngstown State and Cleveland State.
On Saturday, the Jaguars fell 5-2 at Youngstown State despite a strong start in doubles play. IU Indy secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, as the tandem of
Konner Gunwall and
Brandon Pham earned a 6-4 victory, while
Owen Nguyen and
Cameron Kryscio followed with a 6-2 decision.
In singles, Nguyen delivered the lone point for the Jaguars, battling to a three-set win at No. 2 (7-5, 2-6, 6-1). Gunwall also pushed his match to three sets at the top spot but ultimately came up short in a tightly contested battle. Youngstown State claimed the remaining singles matches to secure the team victory.
IU Indy then traveled to Cleveland State on Sunday, falling 6-1 to the Vikings. The Vikings took control early by claiming the doubles point, winning at No. 1 and No. 3.
Kryscio provided the highlight for the Jaguars in singles play, earning a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 4, capped by a tiebreak win in the third set (6-2, 3-6, 7-6(2)). Cleveland State won the other five singles matches, including four in three-set fashion, to seal the match.
With the regular season complete, IU Indianapolis finishes Horizon League play at 2-4 and will now turn its attention to postseason competition. The Jaguars will prepare for the Horizon League Championships, scheduled for April 24-26.
