INDIANAPOLIS - IU Indy men's and women's tennis each placed a student-athlete on the Horizon League All-Academic Teams, as announced by the league office. Senior
Eli Mercer was named to the Men's All-Academic Team, while senior
Calli Sokolowski earned Women's All-Academic Honorable Mention honors.
Mercer, a senior majoring in management, earns the accolade after posting a 3.76 grade-point average. He totaled nine singles points during the spring season, including a No. 3 singles victory against Northern Kentucky. Mercer also recorded 10 doubles wins this spring, including four in Horizon League play with wins over Cleveland State, Youngstown State and back-to-back victories against Northern Kentucky.
Following his junior season, Mercer was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and has also been recognized on the Horizon League Honor Roll and IU Indy Academic Advisor's List.
Sokolowski, a senior studying general studies with a 3.85 GPA, was named an All-Academic Honorable Mention selection. She registered four singles points this spring, including three wins at the No. 3 position and one at No. 4 singles. She also added two doubles victories, highlighted by a Horizon League win over Oakland.
Sokolowski earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors following her junior season and, like Mercer, has been named to both the Horizon League Honor Roll and IU Indy Academic Advisor's List.
