MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - Fresh off an electrifying 3-2 win over Ball State, the IUPUI volleyball team will be back in action this weekend when the Jaguars play a pair of matches inside Central Michigan's McGuirk Arena. IUPUI (3-5) will face Indiana State on Friday night (Sept. 8) at 5:00 p.m. before taking on host Central Michigan on Saturday night (Sept. 9) at 5:00 p.m.. 
IUPUI is coming off an impressive home victory over Ball State after having trailed the Cardinals 2-0 after two sets. However, the Jaguars rallied to knock off the in-state foe for the third straight season, (18-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-20, 15-8). It marked the second time this season the Jaguars have rebounded from down two sets to claim a 3-2 win. IUPUI improved to 2-1 on the season in five-set matches. 
"I think more than anything, we're looking to build off the momentum of those last three sets of the Ball State match," longtime IUPUI Head Coach 
Steve Payne said. "It's going to be another good opportunity to play a MAC opponent and an in-state opponent as we continue to challenge ourselves with a tough schedule before league play."
Senior 
Gabby Fisher led the come-from-behind effort with 20 kills and a .302 percentage. Fellow senior 
Kori Waelbroeck put down 13 kills and freshman 
Maddie Dean matched her season high with nine kills. Junior 
Maggie Gibson finished with 43 assists and senior libero 
Jessica Helms had 13 digs. As a team, IUPUI had nine service aces and just five errors. 
The Jags upped their hitting percentage in each of the five sets, including hitting a blistering .417 in the fifth. Payne's squad finished at .191, paced by Fisher. 
"We're really looking forward to seeing Indiana State and Central Michigan this weekend," Fisher said. "They're always good competition and put up a good fight. I'm excited for both matches and getting back on the court."
Waelbroeck leads the Jaguars at 3.94 kills/set and is hitting .221 for the season while Fisher chimes in at 2.15 kills/set. Gibson has a team-high 305 assists and is hitting a team-high .321 in 56 attempts. She is second on the team with 30 blocks, trailing only 
Abby Boatman (41) in that department. Helms has a team-high 4.94 digs/set and Gibson is second at 2.78 digs/set. 
SCOUTING INDIANA STATE: Indiana State (1-6) has dropped six straight after a season-opening 3-0 win over DePaul. Laura Gross leads ISU with 3.32 kills/set and is hitting .168 on the year. Rachel Griffin is the team's primary setter at 9.64 assists/set and Steph Bindernagel tops the Sycamores at 4.28 digs/set. Damadj Johnson is ISU's top blocker, having recorded 17 this season. 
SCOUTING CENTRAL MICHIGAN: Central Michigan (5-1) lone loss of the year was a neutral site defeat to Penn. Otherwise, the Chippewas have dispatched St. Francis (NY), Hartford, Army, Campbell and George Mason to start the year. CMU will play both Indiana State and Cleveland State before playing IUPUI on Saturday. Jordan Bueter averages a team-high 4.43 kills/set and CMU boasts four hitters at better than 2.0 kills/set. Grace Butler is the primary setter at 10.52 assists/set while Megan Kern averages 3.83 digs/set. Taylor Robertson (23) and Paige Carey (19) lead the CMU block up front. 
SERIES RECORDS-
vs. Indiana State: IUPUI is 8-16 all-time against Indiana State, but has won seven of the last 10 meetings. The Jags won last season in Terre Haute, 3-2. 
vs. Central Michigan: IUPUI is 4-2 on the court against Central Michigan, including having won the last two meetings between the two schools. IUPUI defeated CMU at home last August, 3-0.
