WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The IUPUI men's tennis team collected nine singles wins and a pair of doubles victories as Head Coach Brandon Currie got a good look at his young troops at this weekend's Purdue Fall Invitational. Returners Mikel Saavedra and Kyle Whittaker paced the Jags with two singles each in the F Flight. 

In singles play, newcomer Ethan Mardanus-Budiono captured a first round win over Ball State's Christopher Adams 6-4, 6-1 in the C Flight before falling to his opponent from Illinois State. Whittaker and Saavedra earned earned opening round wins in the F Flight before both fell in round two. Whittaker rebounded to knock off his foe from Washington University, 6-3, 6-3. Saavedra beat Ohio Northern's Nate Benoit in a three-set thriller, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 7-5. 

Doubles play was a work in progress as Whittaker and Grant Weaver teamed up for a 7-5 opening win over a tandem from Marquette before dropping back-to-back matches against Washington U. and Illinois State. Matt Moe and Furhan Siddiki closed their doubles run with a 6-3 win over a tandem of a Ball State and Butler player. 

The Jaguars' regulars will compete in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic later this week, beginning on Sept. 21.
