TULSA, Okla. – Despite a promising start to the road event for the Jags, the IUPUI men's tennis team (6-13, 0-1) couldn't overcome the Golden Eagles as Oral Roberts (7-9, 1-0) took the Summit League dual-meet 2-5 Saturday afternoon (March 25).
The Jags came out looking strong in doubles play, as IUPUI was able to capture the point.
Bradley Luetschwager and
Jac Newis improved to 3-3 in doubles play for the year with a 6-4 victory against Jan Pehnec and Kenneth Boykin at the No. 1 spot.
David Beasley and
Kyle Whittaker followed suit with a 6-3 with at the No. spot, dropping Amar Saletovic and Barnabas Koncz.
With the point in hand, the Jags couldn't get much else going as things continued into singles play. Luetschwager got the Jags their only other point at the No. 6 singles spot, taking his match against Eddy Leardini 6-3, 6-3. Newis got off to a solid start with a 6-4 first set, but dropped off with a 2-6, 2-6 score over the next pair. Beasley also jumped over Boykin with a 6-2 set in the first, seeing the next two slip away 4-6, 1-6.
With the loss, the Jags will next play Xavier at home on March 31st at 3 p.m. EST in the West Indy Racquet Club.
