HILTON HEAD, S.C. – A trio of late additions to the Jaguars' schedule, the IUPUI men's tennis team (6-12) went winless during its spring break trip to South Carolina, falling to South Carolina State Tuesday (March 14), before dropping both meets Wednesday (March 15) to George Mason and Southern Mississippi.
In the Jags bout with South Carolina State, IUPUI was able to start the meet by capturing the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots.
David Beasley and
Kyle Whittaker were strong in their 6-2 victory over Vladyslav Yanchenko and Soufiane Mouline, before
Marcus Nalley and
Steven Christie secured a huge 6-1 victory at the No. 3 over Aleksander Stupar and Stanislav Baco.
The only other point for IUPUI came at the No. 4 single spot, as Beasley played an abbreviated 6-1, 3-0 victory.
Against George Mason, the Jags picked up victories in the top two spots in singles play. Beasley was once again strong out of the No. 2 spot, rallying for a 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-2 marathon match over Jakob Nielsen.
Jac Newis cruised to an easy win with a 6-1, 6-3 showing at the No. 1 in downing James Lange.
In wrapping up the week, the Jags were blanked across the board, losing the doubles point while only being able to pick up a single game in the No. 1 and 2 spots. The No. 3 doubles match went unfinished. After Southern Mississippi had already sealed wins at the No. 3, 4 and 5 spots, the remainder of the matches went unfinished.
The Jags will open up Summit League play on March 25 while on the road against Oral Roberts at 12 p.m. EST.
