WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A long day that started in Chicago and ended in West Lafayette, the IUPUI men's tennis team (5-8) were blanked in a pair of dual-meets Saturday (Feb. 25), falling 0-4 to DePaul before being dispatched of 0-5 by Purdue.
In the morning meet with DePaul, four matches went unfinished as the Jags saw their team drop the doubles point after falling 4-6 at the No. 1 and 2-6 at the No. 3. Singles play began and quickly ended the meet, as DePaul gathered wins in the No. 1, 2 and 6 spots. The losses by IUPUI gave DePaul an abbreviated win.
In the afternoon bout, the Jags were able to salvage a win at the No. 2 doubles spot, as
David Beasley and
Kyle Whittaker outlasted a pair of Boilermakers for the 6-3 set. The Jags fell at the No. 1 and 3. In singles play, the closest the Jags came to a victory was at the No. 1 spot, as
Steven Christie was tasked with facing the 89th ranked player in Gergely Madarasz. Christie lost 4-6, 2-6.
Bradley Luetschwager was able to capture the first set 7-6 (8-6) in his No. 3 singles match, but the action went unfinished, as IUPUI had already fallen in the dual-meet.
The Jags will play a pair of dual-meets against Saint Louis and Northern Illinois on March 3 and 4.
