CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The IUPUI men's tennis team ran its winning streak to three-in-a-row as the Jaguars captured a 4-3 outcome at Austin Peay's Governors Tennis Center on Saturday (Feb. 19). The Jags won the doubles point and split the six singles matches, punctuated by
Bradley Luetschwager's win at No. 6 singles to clinch the win.
"Coming off a tough win at home last night, today's match offered a new challenge against a great team," Head Coach Dr.
Brandon Currie said. "I'm proud of how well our guys responded and stepped up tonight. They showed a lot of grit and the program definitely took another step in the right direction.
"Guys are starting to believe in themselves and one another. I like the atmosphere of our team and what's happening."
IUPUI (5-5) went ahead 1-0 with doubles wins at the top and bottoms spots in the lineup.
Steven Christie and
Marcus Nalley won 6-4 at the No. 3 spot and Luetschwager and
Jac Newis teamed up for a 7-6 (7) win at the top spot.
Singles play was similarly dicey with the Jags collecting wins at Nos. 3, 4 and 6 to get to .500 on the year.
Christie collected a straight sets win at No. 3, 6-3, 7-6 (7) and veteran
David Beasley stayed hot with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 4 spot. Beasley improved to 6-4 for the spring and won his fourth consecutive singles match.
However, the match was decided on the No. 6 court where Luetschwager fended off his opponent for a 6-4, 6-1 straight set victory. The Wisconsin-native upped his singles record to 7-2 this spring with a 5-1 mark at the No. 6 spot in the lineup.
IUPUI will cap the two-game Tennessee trip on Sunday (Feb. 19) when the Jaguars face Belmont at 1:00 p.m. in Nashville.
