INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's tennis team used its depth to edge past Cleveland State, 4-3 at West Indy Racquet Club on Friday (Feb. 17). After yielding the doubles point, the Jaguars recovered to win the bottom four singles matches to get past the Vikings.
The doubles points was nip-and-tuck with the IUPUI pair of
Bradley Luetschwager and
Jac Newis winning at the top spot, 6-4. However, a 7-5 loss at No. 2 and a 7-6 (12-10) defeat at No. 3 gave the initial point of the day to Cleveland State.
CSU also won the top two singles matches in straight sets, but the Jaguars outgunned the Vikings at the bottom of the lineup to steal a non-conference victory.
Freshman
Steven Christie won the clincher at No. 3, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-1 after a marathon first two sets. Junior
David Beasley overcame a rough first set to win at No. 4, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 and in doing so, collected his third consecutive singles win and improved to 5-4 for the spring season.
Senior
