INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's tennis team will open Summit League play this week as part of a pair of dual matches. Head Coach
Marisa Arce's squad is seeking its first win of the spring and will host Omaha on Friday (Feb. 17) before heading north to Ball State on Sunday (Feb. 19). Friday's match is scheduled for noon at West Indy Racquet Club while Sunday's match will begin at 2:00 p.m. in Muncie, Ind..
The Jaguars have been close on a number of occasions this spring, including a pair of 4-3 defeats. Most recently, the Jags fell to SIUE 7-0 at West Indy on Feb. 12.
Junior
Valeriia Lavrenchuk has a team-high three wins this spring while
Mariella Pessina has a team-high eight singles wins, seven of which came in the fall. The doubles tandem of
Samantha Mayer and
Sara Sherif has a team-best 7-4 record and a 2-1 mark this spring. For the year, Sherif owns a team-high nine doubles wins this season.
Omaha (2-4) has dual wins over Green Bay and Doane (Neb.) this season and is led by Michelle Lo, who is 4-1 at No. 1 singles. The remainder of the Omaha team has combined for 10 singles wins behind her.
Ball State (5-2) recently had a five-match winning streak snapped and is 5-1 at home entering the weekend. Audrey Berger leads the Cardinals with a 5-0 mark this spring, playing primarily at the bottom half of the lineup. BSU will open the weekend by hosting Evansville on Saturday afternoon.
