INDIANAPOLIS – A substantial showing for the Jags in a bounce-back meet, the IUPUI men's tennis team (3-5) came out with a commanding victory Saturday (Feb. 11) over Eastern Illinois (1-6), taking the meet 6-1. The Jags secured the doubles point and picked up five victories in singles play.
A different look to the doubles pairs for IUPUI, the Jags started the day with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots, taking the point from EIU.
Matt Moe and
David Beasley worked a strong 6-1 set in the two-spot, followed by
Marcus Nalley and
Steven Christie getting a 6-1 win at the three.
Christie had perhaps the most convincing win of the day in singles play, as the freshman dominated his way to a 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 3. Beasley faced tough opposition in the first set before running away with things in the No. 4 spot, taking the match 7-5, 6-1. Nalley followed suit with a clutch 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win at the No. 5, as the big junior
Bradley Luetschwager fought off Trent Reiman in the No. 6 spot, 6-4, 6-3.
The most competitive bought pitted
Jac Newis against Grant Reiman at the No. 2 singles spot, with Newis jumping out to a big 6-1 win in the first set. Reiman returned volley with a 4-6 second set, but Newis stayed the course, closing things out with a 6-3 third set.
With the win, the Jags snap a three-meet losing streak and will look to face Cleveland State Friday (Feb. 17) at 4 p.m. EST in the West Indy Racquet Club.
