KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – IUPUI men's tennis team continued its fall season at the ITA Regionals. The Jags competed at the Ohio Valley Regionals hosted by the University of Tennessee.
Senior Jac Lewis earned IUPUI's lone win in the first round of the main draw beating Chattanooga's Cooper Long 6-1, 7-5. Lewis then fell to the No. 7 seed Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff from Louisville 6-2, 6-4 in the second round.
The Jags got a very strong showing from fellow senior
David Beasley in the consolation round. Beasley fell in the opening round 6-4, 6-0 to Jan Pallares, the No. 24 seed from Memphis, but then went on a run.
Beasley started his consolation run with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Eastern Kentucky's Josh Piunti and followed that with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 victory against Victor Chaw from Lipscomb. In the next round, Beasley fell in the first set 4-6 again before battling back and winning the next two sets, 6-1, 11-9 over Almantas Ozelis from Austin Peay. After moving past Vincent Sterkens by default, Beasley's run came to an end in a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Tom Moonen from Middle Tennessee State.
Freshman
Ethan Budiono lost in his first round 7-5, 7-6(4) to Alex Ross from Vanderbilt and then fell in his consolation match against Middle Tennessee State's Luis Morillo in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 10-3).
Senior
Bradley Luetschwager, the last Jaguar to compete in the regionals, was forced to retire against East Tennessee State's Miguel Este 4-6, 4-3.
IUPUI will compete at the Old Gold and Black Classic at Purdue to finish out its fall season.
