MILWAUKEE, Wis. – After a tough start to the season against a nationally ranked opponent, the IUPUI men's tennis team (1-2) bounced back Saturday (Jan. 29), picking up their first dual-meet victory of the 2017 spring season.  The Jags split the day, losing to Marquette (1-1) 1-6 before topping Cardinal Stritch (0-1) 5-2.

The Jags were led on the day by the play of Bradley Luetschwager, as the big junior earned a pair of singles victories at the No. 5 spot across the two meets.  Both of Luetschwager's matches went the distance, as the Stevens Point, Wisconsin-native picked up the Jags only point in a come-from-behind victory against Brett Myers of the Golden Eagles.  After dropping the opening set in a shutout, Luetschwager bounced back with sets of 6-2 and 6-3 to seal the victory.

In the evening bout with Cardinal Stritch, Luetschwager got off to a strong start, claiming the opening set 6-3.  His opponent, Raymond Weich, fought back with a 4-6 second set, but the 6' 5" Luetschwager had the stamina to once again take it the distance, winning the decisive third set 6-4.

Despite not being able to secure the doubles point against the Wolves, the Jags cruised to victory on five singles points, which included a win by Luetschwager's doubles partner, David Beasley.  After a tough-fought opening set at 6-4 in the No. 3 spot, Beasley trounced Gian Pico of Cardinal Stritch with a 6-1 second set.  Jose Calero won in three sets at the No. 2 spot, Marcus Nalley gave up just five games in a two-set victory at the No. 4 spot and Kyle Whittaker overcame an extended second set to win 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 6 spot.

With the victory, the Jags will now look to close out the weekend with another win as the team ventures to Chicago, Illinois to do battle with Chicago State University Sunday (Jan. 29) at 10 a.m. EST.
