MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The IUPUI men's tennis team (0-1) will continue its season opening road trip with a trio of scheduled dual-meets this weekend (Jan. 28-29), as the team will face Marquette and Cardinal Stritch Saturday (Jan. 28), followed by Chicago State Sunday (Jan. 29).
The Jags opened up the season against one of the elite programs in the nation, as IUPUI fell to #13 Northwestern 0-7. The dual-meet included the 26th-ranked singles player in the nation, as the Jags fared moderately against the assembly of national talent.
The weekend-opening Marquette Golden Eagles started the season with a shutout loss at the hands of Minnesota. A 14-10 program from a season ago, the Golden Eagles were a perfect 8-0 in home meets last season. The Jags faced the Golden Eagles early in the 2016 spring season, losing to Marquette 2-5.
Cardinal Stritch is kicking off its spring season with an opening dual-meet against IUPUI. A strong men's NAIA program, the Wolves went 16-7 a season ago, including a 7-0 record against Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) teams. After winning the CCAC, the team advanced to the first round of the NAIA Tournament. The two teams clashed last season, as the Jags eventually prevailed 4-3 despite losing the doubles point.
Carrying and 0-3 record through the earliest parts of the season, the Chicago State Cougars have yet to earn a point this season. The team lost to Louisville in their opener on the road, followed by a pair of losses to Purdue. The Cougars had a rough go at it during the 2016 spring season, as the team compiled a 3-22 overall record. The Jags faced the Cougars last season, defeating Chicago State 5-2.
