INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's tennis team will host its final home match of the 2016 spring season on Wednesday (Apr. 6) when the Jaguars welcome Ball State to West Indy Racquet Club at 1:00 p.m.. The Jaguars are riding high after a hard fought 4-3 Summit League win over Oral Roberts over the weekend.
IUPUI (7-17, 2-0) got singles wins from
Jac Newis,
Akshay Verma and
Bradley Luetschwager after claiming the doubles point to begin the match. Luetschwager cruised at No. 6 singles before Newis and Verma sealed the win in three-set victories. Newis won 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 and Verma earned the final triumph at No. 4, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Verma was rewarded with Summit League Player of the Week honors after also collecting a doubles win over the weekend.
Ball State comes in at 7-10 overall and 2-2 in the Mid-American Conference. The Jags fell to BSU last year in Muncie, 5-2 as Verma collected a win at No. 5 singles and IUPUI captured the doubles point.
