Full ResultsEVANSTON, Ill. - The IUPUI men's tennis team capped a busy weekend with a tall task as the Jaguars squared off with No. 12 Northwestern at Combe Tennis Center on Sunday night (Mar. 27). The host Wildcats captured the doubles point and made quick work of singles play to claim a 4-0 victory.
The loss dropped IUPUI to 6-17 on the season with eight of the losses coming to major conference foes. Half of those eight losses have come on the road against Big Ten opponents.
Northwestern (17-2) won the top two doubles matches, although IUPUI's rookie tandem of
Patrick McAuley and
Matt Moe claimed a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. With the win, the duo improved to 9-10 on the season and added to their team-high nine doubles victories.
However, singles play was a breeze for Northwestern as the hosts claimed three wins and led in the three unfinished matches.
Marcus Nalley was the first victim at No. 2, losing to No. 97 Strong Kirchheimer 6-0, 6-1. Michael Lorenzini dispatched freshman
Mikel Saavedra at No. 6 singles and Alp Horoz sealed the win with his victory over
Bradley Luetschwager at No. 4 singles.
At the time of the stoppage, McAuley was locked in a good match with Mihir Kumar at No. 5 singles as he was on serve in the second set.
The Jags will return to Summit League play on Saturday, April 2 when they host Oral Roberts at West Indy Racquet Club at 11:00 a.m.. That match will be free of charge and open to the public.
