INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's tennis team split a pair of tough matches at West Indy Racquet Club on Saturday (Mar. 26), knocking off Division III's No. 5 team Case Western Reserve before falling to Butler. The Jags edged Case Western Reserve 4-3 in a match that was decided by the final court, before dropping a 5-2 decision to Butler in the nightcap.

The morning match started slowly for the Jaguars as IUPUI (6-16) dropped the doubles point to Case Western Reserve. However, the Jags answered with victories in four of the six singles matches, capped by Bradley Luetschwager's three-set win at the No. 4 spot. David Beasley, Marcus Nalley and Jose Calero had pulled the Jags even at 3-3 with wins at Nos. 2, 3 and 6 singles, respectively. Beasley cruised 6-3, 6-0 and Nalley defeated his foe, 6-2, 7-5. Calero anchored the lineup with a 6-3, 7-6 victory at the No. 6 slot, offsetting losses at the top and No. 5 position.

However, it was the tallest Jaguar that came up largest when it mattered. After dropping the opening set, Luetschwager rallied for a 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 marathon win over Louis Stuerke to run the Jags' winning streak to three.

The winning streak came to a halt later in the evening though as Butler picked off the Jags, 5-2 at West Indy. Patrick McAuley and Matt Moe earned a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles, but the Bulldogs won the top two spots to take the match's first point. From there, Butler claimed four of the six singles matches to escape victorious.

IUPUI's victories came from Beasley and Luetschwager at Nos. 2 and 4, respectively. Beasley was dominant with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph and Luetschwager won 7-6, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7) to cap his busy day. Beasley ran his personal winning streak to four-in-a-row while Calero and Luetschwager both ended the day with three-match winning streaks.

The Jaguars will continue the busy weekend on Sunday when they face Northwestern at 6:00 p.m. in Evanston, Ill.. A full recap and results will be available on IUPUIJags.com following the match.
