INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's tennis team will have a busy Easter weekend as the Jaguars compete three times in a two-day stretch, including a pair of home matches at West Indy Racquet Club. On Saturday (Mar. 26), the Jaguars will welcome both Case Western Reserve and crosstown rival Butler to West Indy, before trekking north to play Northwestern on Easter Sunday (Mar. 27).
Saturday's action will start at 10:00 a.m. against Case Western Reserve and the Jags will then host Butler at 6:00 p.m.. IUPUI will cap the weekend at Northwestern with a 6:00 p.m. start at the Combe Tennis Center.
IUPUI (5-15) comes in on a modest two-game winning streak, having captured a pair of matches on Hilton Head last week. Three Jaguars -
David Beasley,
Jose Calero and
Marcus Nalley - enter the weekend with personal two-match winning streaks in singles play. Beasley has a team-high 10 singles wins (eight in spring duals) while Nalley is second on the squad with seven victories (five in spring duals). Nalley has been especially strong at No. 3 singles where he's gone 4-2 this season.
The Jaguars have seemingly found their stride in doubles play, where the tandems of Beasley/
Akshay Verma and
Patrick McAuley/
Matt Moe have been especially strong. Beasley and Verma are a combined 7-7 this season, including winning six of their past 10 outings. McAuley and Moe also have seven wins as a duo, all coming at the No. 3 doubles position. Beasley owns a team-high eight doubles victories, having also combined with
Jose Calero for a triumph.
IUPUI will have two opportunities to avenge losses from a season ago as Butler handled the Jaguars 6-1 last season and Northwestern coasted to a 7-0 home victory last March. Against Butler, three of the six singles matches went to a third set as the match was played on BU's outdoor courts.Â
