MEN'S TENNIS FALLS IN CONFERENCE SEMIS TO MASTODONS

Jags finish 2015 season with a 10-17 record

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The tournament host Fort Wayne Mastodons jumped out to an early lead and then held off the second-seeded IUPUI to earn a 4-2 win over the Jags in the Summit League semifinals Saturday at Empowered Sports Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.
 
Playing on its home courts, the Mastodons got off to a great start comfortably sweeping all three doubles matches by scores of 8-3, 8-4 and 8-4 to take the one-point lead heading into singles play.
 
Playing on just four courts, the No. 1, 2, 3 and 5 matches were the first up and Adam Reinhart and Alex Toliver each were able to take first-set leads with Toliver cruising to a 6-0 first-set win and Reinhart seizing a 6-3 win. Akshay Verma and Jac Newis both had first-set leads, but the Mastodons were able to rally in both sets to put Verma and Newis in an early hole.
 
Toliver and Reinhart both finished off their matches in straight sets to give the Jags two points, but both Verma and Newis also fell in their matches keeping IPFW ahead by one.
 
Then, the Mastodons' Karl Wangensten-Oye defeated Jose Calero, 6-2, 6-1, in six singles to finish off the 4-2 win for Fort Wayne.
 
The loss dropped IUPUI to 10-17 on the season.
