INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indianapolis men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Youngstown State on Sunday (March 22) at home despite several three-set matches.
The Penguins secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 before taking all six singles matches to secure the win.
In singles play, the Jaguars pushed several matches to three sets, highlighted by strong efforts at the top of the lineup.
Konner Gunwall battled at No. 1 singles, splitting the first two sets before falling 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Owen Nguyen (No. 2),
Eli Mercer (No. 3) and
Pumiphat Sukkho (No. 5) also each claimed opening-set victories but were unable to hold on as Youngstown State rallied in each match.
At No. 4 singles,
Cameron Kryscio dropped a tightly contested first set in a tiebreak before falling in straight sets, while
Jai Dutta rounded out the lineup at No. 6.
Despite the final score, IU Indy found success in doubles play at the No. 3 position, where Mercer and Sukkho earned a 6-3 victory.
The Jaguars will continue Horizon League action on March 28 when they host Northern Kentucky.
