FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The quest for a Summit League Championships begins for the IUPUI men's tennis team on Saturday, April 25, when the Jaguars open the Summit League Tournament against Fort Wayne.
The Jaguars and Mastodons, who defeated Western Illinois, 4-0, in the opening round of the conference tournament on Friday, square off at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Kachmann Tennis Center on the IPFW campus.
The Jags, led by Summit League Coach of the Year
Brandon Currie, finished the conference campaign with a 4-2 conference record, equaling the conference record for IPFW. However, the Jags defeated the Mastodons, 5-2, back on March 14, to earn the first-round bye in the league tournament.
When the Jags take on the Mastodons on Saturday, they will be looking for a victory to send them to their fourth Summit League Championship match in five seasons. IUPUI and IPFW last met in the conference tournament in 2012 with the Jags defeating the Dons, 4-1.
IUPUI enters the tournament with four All-Summit League performers in
Alex Toliver,
Adam Reinhart,
Akshay Verma and
David Beasley, who also was named the Summit League Newcomer of the Year. Beasley and Toliver both claimed five wins in league play, while Verma and Reinhart both added four apiece, but all four were victorious in singles play in the win over the Mastodons back in March.
Live stats for Saturday's semifinal will be available in IUPUIJags.com.
