INDIANAPOLIS – In a match that would determine the top seed in the upcoming Summit League Men's Tennis Tournament, it was Denver that earned the number one seed after defeating the IUPUI men's tennis team 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the West Indy Racquet Club.

The win kept the Pioneers perfect in Summit League play at 6-0, while the Jaguars fell to 4-2.

In doubles play, the Pioneers captured the first of the three matches winning at the two spot, 8-3, before the Jaguars evened play with an 8-6 win from David Beasley and Akshay Verma at the No. 3 position. That shifted all the attention to the No. 1 match, and it was tight throughout. Unfortunately, it was Denver who won the crucial point late to win the tiebreaker, 7-5, finishing off the 8-7 win and placing it in front, 1-0.

In singles play, Alex Toliver and Beasley both rallied back from first-set losses to win third-set tiebreakers, but the Pioneers were too strong posting straight-set wins in the remaining four matches.

For Toliver, he lost the first set, 7-5, before rallying for a 7-6 tiebreaker win in set two. In the race to 10 points, Toliver cruised to a 10-2 win in the breaker to finish off the win. For Beasley, it was slightly more difficult as he dropped the first set, 6-0, before eking out a 7-6 win in set two. He went back-and-forth with his opponent before pulling an 11-9 win in the tiebreaker.

Up next for the Jaguars is their final home meet of the season on Sunday, April 19, against Detroit. The match at West Indy Racquet Club is set for a 1 p.m. start.
