SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Riding a six-game winning streak, the IUPUI softball team looks to continue its winning ways this weekend when it heads to the West Coast this weekend for the 2015 Mustang Classic.
 
The Jaguars will be traveling to San Luis Obispo, Calif., where it will take on Cal Poly, Sacramento State, Southern Utah and Bryant. IUPUI begins play on Thursday, March 5, when it plays a doubleheader against tournament host Cal Poly with the opener starting at 7 p.m. ET. Then on Friday, March 6, the Jags square off against Sacramento State and Southern Utah at 2:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET, respectively, before IUPUI finishes the event on Saturday, March 8, against Bryant at 2:30 p.m. ET.
 
IUPUI has won six games in a row to improve to 10-3 on the season – its best start in its D-I era. Ali Mosier has paced the offense through 13 games with a team-best .400 average, while also leading the team in homers (5) and RBI (13). Mosier became the program's all-time D-I era home runs leader with the second of her two home runs in the Jags last game against Indiana State giving her 19 for her career. The Simi Valley, Calif.,-native needs just one more RBI to become the program's D-I leader in that category.
 
While Mosier has anchored the offense, Brooke Boetjer has done the same for the pitching staff owning a 1.46 ERA in 57.2 innings this season. Boetjer is 8-3 on the young season, which already puts her in a tie for 10th in school history for wins a season, and she has six complete games. While Boetjer has been the ace of the staff, Emili Escamilla has stepped up with back-to-back complete-game performances as her ERA has dipped to 3.27.
 
To this point of the season, the Jags are hitting .248 compared to .215 for its opponents, and IUPUI has outscored the opposition 67-41.
 
Cal Poly comes into its home tournament with an 8-11 overall record, Sacramento State is 5-9, Southern Utah is 3-12 and Bryant is 4-6. The Jaguars have never met Cal Poly and Bryant, but it is 0-1 all-time against Sacramento State and 18-37 against former Summit League foe Southern Utah.
