EVANSTON, Ill. – Playing three matches in three days is a tough test, especially when the last of those three matches is on the road against a Top 20 team. That's what the IUPUI men's tennis team faced Sunday evening as it made its way to the Chicago area in search of a victory against Northwestern, but the Wildcats posted a 7-0 win.
IUPUI fell to 7-13 on the season with the loss, and three of those have come against Big Ten opponents.
In doubles action, the Wildcats were able to take the early lead with wins at the second and third spots, but the duo of
Adam Reinhart and
Alex Toliver were competitive at the top of the lineup against the #69 doubles team in the country in Sam Shropshire and Alex Pasareanu. Despite having the match go unfinished, Reinhart and Toliver took two games off the nationally-ranked duo.
In singles action,
Jac Newis and Reinhart were pitted against a pair of Top-125 opponents at the top two spots. Both were on the wrong side of straight-set losses, and that would be the case for the remainder of the lineup as Northwestern earned straight-set wins in the final four matches.
Up next for the Jags is a trip to Tulsa, Okla., on Saturday, April 4. In Tulsa, IUPUI will put its undefeated Summit League record on the line against Oral Roberts.
