SOFTBALL TO MEET NORTHWESTERN SATURDAY IN ROSEMONT, ILL.

Jags and Wildcats play a Saturday doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m. ET

3/13/2015 10:00:00 AM

ROSEMONT, Ill. – In its final test before Summit League play begins, the IUPUI softball team heads to Rosemont, Ill., on Saturday, March 14, for a doubleheader against Northwestern.

Game 1 of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. ET, and if the outdoor fields are playable both games will take place outdoors. If not, both games will be played inside the Rosemont Dome.

There is some familiarity between the two programs as IUPUI head coach Amanda Rivera had two stints as a coach at Northwestern under Wildcats head coach Kate Drohan. IUPUI assistant coach Adrienne Monka was a four-year letterwinner at Northwestern from 2009-12, and she finished her career ranked in the Top 10 in school history in batting average, home runs, RBI and walks.

The Wildcats enter the weekend with a 9-10 record, but half of those losses have come against Top 25 teams. Northwestern has won five of its last six, which includes wins over Stanford and Louisville.

IUPUI has won 10 of its last 11 games to raise its record to 14-4 overall continuing its best start in its Division-I era. Last weekend in California, the Jags went 4-1 thanks in part to the work of Brooke Boetjer and Ali Mosier who as a result of their efforts were named Summit League Pitcher of the Week and Player of the Week, respectively.

Mosier continues to lead the team in average (.429), runs (18), hits (24), doubles (8), home runs (6), RBI (16) and stolen bases (11).  Roni Patterson isn't far behind Mosier's production posting five home runs and 14 RBI through 18 games.

Boetjer has been the stabilizing force in the circle with an 11-4 record, a 1.38 ERA and she has thrown eight complete games, but Emili Escamilla has given the Jags a strong 1-2 punch in the past few weeks. Since Feb. 27, Escamilla has pithed in six games throwing 26.1 innings and has an ERA of 1.59 during that span with 29 strikeouts. Included in those 29 strikeouts was a career-high 11 strikeouts against Youngstown State.
