INDIANAPOLIS – Two of the doubles matches went to tiebreakers and five of the six singles matches featured either second-set tiebreakers or third sets, but Xavier won more of the crucial points helping it earn a 5-2 win over the IUPUI men's tennis team Sunday evening at West Indy Racquet Club.

Xavier improved to 5-2 with the win, while IUPUI fell to 3-8.

All three doubles matches were tightly contested and went to extra sets, but Xavier emerged victorious in all three matches. Alex Toliver and Patrick O'Neill fell short in a 7-5 decision at the top spot, while the teams of Thomas Gans and Adam Reinhart and Jose Calero and David Beasley both dropped tiebreakers falling by identical 7-6 scores.

In singles play, the Musketeers were able to extend their lead following a 6-3, 6-0 win at the No. 1 position, but the next five matches could have gone either way.
Xavier took the first sets at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 positions, while Toliver and Calero won their first sets at the No. 2 and No. 5 spots.

Toliver won his second set in a tiebreaker to get the Jaguars on the board, but tiebreaker wins from the Musketeers in set two at the 3 and 4 positions clinched the victory for Xavier.
Calero and Marcus Nalley both found themselves in third sets and Calero came away with a 6-3, 0-6, 6-1 win, while Nalley fell just short in a 4-6, 6-4, 4-6 decision.

Up next for the Jaguars is a big match-up on Saturday, Feb. 14, against Michigan State at the West Indy Racquet Club.
