NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Since head coach Amanda Rivera arrived on campus, the goal for the IUPUI softball team has been to claim a Summit League championship and that journey towards a title begins on Friday, Feb. 6, when the Jags head to Nashville, Tenn., for the 2015 Music City Classic.
The tournament is co-hosted by Belmont and Lipscomb, and IUPUI will take on both hosts in addition to in-state foe Ball State and Georgetown.
The tournament begins for the Jaguars on Friday, Feb. 6, when it takes on Belmont at Belmont's Rose Park at 5 p.m. ET. The remainder of IUPUI's games will be played at Lipscomb's Draper Diamond beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 7, against Ball State and Lipscomb at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. ET, respectively. The tournament ends for the Jaguars against the Hoyas at 1 p.m. ET, on Sunday, Feb. 8.
IUPUI was recently picked to finish fourth in the 2015 Summit League Preseason Poll after compiling a 24-24 record a season ago. The Jaguars return 14 letterwinners from last year's squad that was within a game of reaching the Summit League Tournament Championship, including First-Team All-Summit League performers
Ali Mosier and
Taylor Chitwood, and Second-Team All-League and NFCA All-Region selection
Roni Patterson.
The Jags have had 15 match-ups all-time against their opponents at the Music City Classic, including 11 against Ball State. However, the Jaguars are just 1-14 in those contests with that win coming against Belmont. In total, IUPUI is 1-2 against the Bruins, 0-11 against the Cardinals and 0-1 versus Lipscomb. Sunday's meeting between IUPUI and Georgetown will be the first meeting.
