LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After a two-week break from competition, the rejuvenated IUPUI men's tennis team will face a tough test this weekend when it travels south to take on the Louisville Cardinals.
The Cards are ranked 38th nationally in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, and they have two players ranked in the Top 105 in the country highlighted by the fifth-ranked player nationally, Sebastian Stiefelmeyer. Louisville is 10-2 on the season and it has won eight straight matches.
"We are excited to have an opportunity to compete against Louisville this weekend. Louisville has a quality program that is well coached with a lot of talented players, but it is our goal to play the highest level of competition possible," head coach
Brandon Currie said. "We will definitely have that opportunity this weekend and I am looking forward to seeing how well our guys compete. We have a lot of guys playing at a high level right now, so it should be fun to see how we stack up."
The Jags are coming off a 6-1 loss to #60 Michigan State in its last outing two weeks ago, but that lone point came from
Alex Toliver, who delivered a three-set win at the No. 2 spot. Toliver has won four straight singles matches, but it is
Adam Reinhart who paces the team with seven singles victories this season.
Saturday's match is set for 5 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
