KENNESAW, Ga. – With the opening weekend now behind them, the IUPUI softball team turns its attention to the Phyllis Rafter Memorial Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State.
The original schedule for the weekend has been altered due to cold temperatures forecast in the Kennesaw area this weekend. The Jaguars will open the tournament against host Kennesaw State at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, before taking on Southern Illinois and No. 5 Kentucky at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, on Saturday, Feb. 14.
"Last weekend we got off to a solid start, but we definitely made some uncharacteristic mistakes that we need to fix going into this weekend," head coach Amanda Rivera said. "This is a great group of teams we are playing this weekend and we are excited to see where we stack up against teams of this caliber."
Brooke Boetjer threw 21.2 of the 28.0 innings last weekend for IUPUI and was impressive posting a 1.94 ERA while striking out 16. She started the season with an eight-inning, complete game performance against Belmont, before finishing the weekend with another complete game in the tournament finale against Georgetown.
Offensively, Boetjer also leads the team with a .333 average through the first weekend, but it is
Ali Mosier who leads the squad with three RBI. The three RBI from Mosier pulled her within 11 RBI of becoming the program's D-I era RBI leader.
IUPUI is 0-2 all-time against this weekend's opponents. It is 0-1 against both Kennesaw State and Kentucky, while Saturday morning's match-up with Southern Illinois will be the first meeting between the two schools.
