CHICAGO – The IUPUI men's tennis team entered Sunday looking for a weekend split after going 1-1 on Friday, but the Jaguars were unable to do so falling to both DePaul and Northern Illinois.
The pair of losses on Sunday dipped the Jaguars to 1-6 on the young season.
In the first match of the day against the Blue Demons, all three doubles matches were decided by scores of 6-3, but IUPUI could only get the favorable outcome at the No. 2 position with
Thomas Gans and
Adam Reinhart getting the win.
In singles action, the only victory came from Reinhart at the No. 3 spot. Reinhart, who was playing against his former team, came away with a convincing 6-4, 6-2 win to give IUPUI its only point.
In other singles action,
Alex Toliver started strong winning his opening set 6-2 only to end up in a third-set tiebreaker following a 7-5 defeat in set two. The tiebreaker went back-and-forth before Toliver came up on the short end of a 10-8 decision. The other four singles matches were decided in straight sets.
In the nightcap, Northern Illinois jumped out to the 1-0 lead with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point.
From there, IUPUI picked up two wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots from Reinhart and
David Beasley, but it needed four and the Huskies claimed two straight-set wins and a three-set win at the No. 1 spot to finish off the 4-2 win.
Up next for the Jags is a trip to Valparaiso, Ind., on Saturday, Jan. 31, when it takes on the Valparaiso Crusaders.
