MILWAUKEE - The IUPUI men's tennis team started its three-day, four-match road trip with a win over Cardinal Stritch Friday afternoon in Milwaukee to get the trip off to a good start, but the Jags could not make it two in a row falling to Marquette in the nightcap.
To begin the day, the Jaguars took the doubles point thanks to wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Thomas Gans and
Adam Reinhart teamed up for a 6-3 win at the No. 2 doubles position, and that was followed by a 6-2 win from
David Beasley and
Jose Calero at the No. 3 position.
In singles play, the Jags suffered a loss at the top spot, but rallied with wins at No. 2 through 6.
Jac Newis, Reinhart, Beasley and
Marcus Nalley all won convincingly in straight sets, while Calero earned a hard-fought three-set victory by winning the third-set tiebreaker, 10-6, to close out a 6-1 Jags win.
However, things would not fall the Jaguars way against Marquette with the Golden Eagles taking the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches prior to sweeping all six singles matches in straight sets.
The 7-0 loss to Marquette dropped IUPUI's record to 1-4.
The Jags will have a day to rest before returning to the court on Sunday, Jan. 25, for two more matches in the Chicago area against DePaul and Northern Illinois.
