FARGO, N.D. – Looking for its third win in as many days, the IUPUI softball team suffered its first loss of the 2014 Summit League Tournament dropping a 9-4 decision to in-state rival Fort Wayne at the Ellig Sports Complex.

With the loss, the Jags will now play the winner of the Western Illinois/North Dakota State game at 12:30 p.m. ET on Saturday and the winner will advance to play Fort Wayne at 3 p.m. ET.

Last weekend, IPFW's Miranda Kramer threw a pair of one-hit performances in picking up two wins over the Jags. Kramer wasn't as effective on Friday, but her offense gave her enough run support to move her team within one game of advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

Alex Bousquet started the damage with a solo homer to start the game, and later Larissa Franklin scored on a double steal to give the Mastodons a 2-0 lead before the Jaguars earned their first at-bat.

IPFW scored twice more in the top of the third to up its lead to 4-0, before the Jags struck back in the bottom of the third. Eryn Dillon drew a walk with two outs to turn the lineup over, and that proved to be vital as Ali Mosier hit a two-run homer to cut the Jaguars deficit in half, 4-2.  A Morgan Schlobohm double ensued and she scored during the next at-bat when Roni Patterson registered a RBI single to bring the Jags within one run, 4-3.

That would be the closest the Jags would get as the Mastodons tacked on a run in the fourth and the sixth before scoring three in the seventh to boost their lead to 9-3.

In the seventh, IUPUI scored one run on a solo home run from Jessica Lam, but that would be it as IPFW finished off the 9-4 win.

Mosier led the way with three hits and drove in a team-high two runs.
