SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The IUPUI softball team will hit the road for the first time in Summit League action this weekend when it travels to the state of South Dakota to take on the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.

The three-game set between the Jaguars and the Jackrabbits was originally scheduled to be played in Brookings, S.D., but due to weather, SDSU's home field is not yet playable resulting in the games being moved to Caldwell Park in Mitchell, S.D. In addition to the location of the series being shifted, the dates and times of this weekend's series have also been adjusted. The series will start on Saturday, April 5, with a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. ET, while the series finale will take place on Sunday, April 6, at 1 p.m. ET.

Last weekend, IUPUI dropped a Friday doubleheader to North Dakota State to fall to 1-4 in Summit League play before rebounding with a doubleheader split against Wisconsin-Green Bay on Monday to cap a seven-game homestand.

Taylor Chitwood remains the team's leader in batting average at .410 with 16 hits in 39 at-bats, but in Summit League action Ali Mosier has been the Jags top hitter posting a .444 average. However, the Jags have struggled in the circle in league-only action with an ERA of 7.80 compared to 3.91 for their opponents.

Mosier continues to be the team leader in RBI with 21, while being tied for the team lead in home runs with Lindsey Richards with three. Roni Patterson and Angela Bartucci are tied for second on the team with 15 RBI each, and Patterson has blasted both of her home runs this season in the last three contests.

Similar to the Jags, South Dakota State opened Summit League action against two tough league opponents and came away with a 2-4 record. Overall, SDSU is 7-18 on the season and this weekend marks their first home series of the year. The Jacks are led offensively by Elyse Eitel and her .367 average, but Devan Larsen leads the squad in homers and RBI with two and 15, respectively.

Ashlyn Bender has been the top pitcher for SDSU posting a 4-6 record and a 4.99 ERA in 12 starts. Both Bender and Jennifer Sutton are tied for the team lead in strikeouts with 28, but as a group, walks have been a problem for the Jackrabbits as they have combined to give 102 free passes compared to striking out 64.

The Jaguars have claimed two of three games over South Dakota State in each of the last two series between the two teams, but this weekend's series will mark the first time since the 2009-10 season that IUPUI will play SDSU on the road. The Jags and Jacks were scheduled to play each other during the final weekend of the 2011-12 season, but that series was canceled due to rain.
