DENVER, Col. – The Pioneers put an abrupt end to the Jaguars' bid for conference supremacy with a 4-0 win Saturday. The Jaguars lost their previous match with the Pioneers two weeks ago 4-0, but earned their rematch with a quarterfinal win over Western Illinois.
 
As quickly as the Jaguars dispatched the Leathernecks on Friday, their goal of winning the tournament ended. In front of their home crowd, Denver established themselves early with breaks in each doubles match. They extended their advantage to three breaks in the No. 1 doubles matchup, which they won 8-3, and carried their single-break advantage in the second spot to an 8-6 win.
 
The doubles matches were a point of emphasis for the Jaguars coming into the match. Denver won the doubles point in all five conference matches this year, and won 13 of the 15 doubles matches. A win there could have put the Jaguars up early and cast doubt amongst Denver players.
 
Akshay Verma and Jason Jaruvang led 7-6 in No. 3 doubles and could have gotten the Jaguars halfway to their goal of taking the point, but ran out of time.
 
Instead of putting the Pioneers on the back foot, it was the Jaguars who'd need a comeback. They couldn't get one though. Denver took the opening set in all six singles matches and finished the day off with straight-set wins at No. 1, 3 and 6 singles.
 
The Jaguars' semifinal loss marks the first time in four years they failed to reach the Summit League tournament finals.
