Live StatsOMAHA, Neb. – The last of three consecutive Summit League series on the road takes place this weekend for the IUPUI softball team when it heads to Omaha, Neb., to take on the Omaha Mavericks.
The three-game weekend set will consist of a doubleheader on Friday, April 25, beginning at 3 p.m., before the series concludes with a single game on Saturday, April 26, at 1 p.m. ET. All three games will be played at Westside Field at Westbrook.
IUPUI's final two league series will be against teams that sit above it in the Summit League standings in Omaha and Fort Wayne. The Jaguars are currently tied for fourth with South Dakota at 6-5, and the Mavericks sit just above the Jags and Coyotes in third place at 7-5.
After starting Summit League action with a 1-4 record, IUPUI has won five of its last six league contests to improve to 6-5 in conference action. During this six-game stretch, the Jaguars are hitting .418, which has upped their Summit League leading team batting average to .355 in league-only games – 85 points higher than second place Fort Wayne. Additionally, the Jags rank atop the league in doubles, home runs, RBI, slugging percentage and on-base percentage while sitting in second in steals.
Nationally, the Jags are ranked in the Top 50 in batting average, doubles per game, scoring, slugging percentage and stolen bases per game through April 20.
Taylor Chitwood leads the way with a .391 average, but
Roni Patterson has upped her average to .374 and leads the squad with seven homers. Patterson has upped her RBI total to 27 with two RBI in IUPUI's 3-1 win over UIC on Tuesday, but
Ali Mosier remains the team leader in that category with 29.
The Mavericks boast two of the Top 10 hitters in the conference in Amber Lutmer and Allie Mathewson, who are hitting .364 and .359, respectively. Lutmer is the league's top power threat with 16 home runs on the season, and her 46 RBI rank second, just two behind Fort Wayne's Dani Pugh.
In the circle, the Mavs have one of the best pitchers in the conference in Dana Elsasser. Elsasser has thrown a league-high 184.1 innings this season while owning a 2.01 ERA. Her 151 strikeouts rank third in the conference, but in league-only contests, her ERA has dipped to 1.89.
Omaha owns a 3-0 lead in the all-time series between the two schools after sweeping last year's series in Omaha.
