CHICAGO – Cassie Vodde surrendered four hits and one earned run, and Roni Patterson gave Vodde all the run support she would need driving in two runs to lead the IUPUI softball team to a 3-1 win over Illinois-Chicago Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Flames Field.

The win upped IUPUI's record to 19-17 overall, and it also marked Vodde's 10th of the season making her the first Jag since 2005 to earn double-digit wins in a season. That year, Angela Espinosa won 11 games.

But Vodde couldn't have earned win number 10 without the help of her offense and Patterson delivered two of the team's five hits and drove in two of the three runs. She has now had six multi-hit games in her last eight outings, and in five of those six multi-hit games she has driven in at least two runs.

Both starting pitchers maneuvered their way around errors in each half of the first inning to keep the game scoreless through one inning, but the Flames were the first to strike in the bottom of the second using a solo homer from Kelly Kennedy to go in front, 1-0.

That lead didn't last long, however, as the Jags struck for two runs in the top of the third to seize a 2-1 advantage. Lindsey Richards led off the inning with a double, but remained on second following a ground out and a fly out. A Morgan Schlobohm single advanced Richards to third and after Schlobohm stole second, Patterson brought home Richards on an infield single to knot the score at 1-1. During the next at-bat, Patterson and Schlobohm successfully executed a double steal resulting in Schlobohm crossing home plate and the Jags taking a one-run lead.

Vodde retired UIC in order in both the third and the fourth and managed to escape a little trouble in the fifth to give her offense a chance to add to the lead.

Patterson helped out her pitcher in the sixth with a lead-off solo homer to left field to boost the lead to 3-1.

Vodde again worked out of trouble in the sixth as she struck out Kennedy with runners on second and third to put the Jags three outs away from a win.

After IUPUI was quickly retired in the top of the seventh, Vodde returned the favor and put down the Flames in order in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.

Tuesday's game marked the first time for head coach Amanda Rivera that she coached against her alma mater. The Jags and Flames were schedule to play a single game last season, but that was cancelled due to inclement weather. Rivera starred at UIC from 2001-04 and she remains the school's all-time home runs leader.

The Jaguars return to action this weekend when they travel to Omaha, Neb., for their final Summit League road series of the year. IUPUI and Omaha begin their three-game set on Friday, April 25, with a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. ET. The series will conclude on Saturday, April 26, with a single game at 1 p.m. ET.
