4/17/2014 10:09:00 AM

VERMILLION, S.D. – IUPUI sits one game behind South Dakota for third place in The Summit League standings, and this weekend the Jags will look to surpass the Coyotes in the standings when they travel to Vermillion, S.D., for a three-game set against USD.

The series will begin on Friday, April 18, with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. ET. On Saturday, April 19, the series concludes with a game that is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET.

The Jaguars have won five of their last six games entering this weekend's conference match-up, but they have not played since an April 9 doubleheader split against Indiana State. IUPUI (16-16) posted a 4-4 record in the first half of Summit League play, and the series against USD marks the beginning of the second half of the conference slate.

In league action, the Jags have been one of the best offensive teams leading the conference in runs scored (64), RBI (56) and batting average (.345), while ranking second in home runs (10) and stolen bases (17). IUPUI has two of the top five hitters in the conference in Taylor Chitwood and Ali Mosier with Chitwood hitting .478 and Mosier hitting .459 to rank third and fifth, respectively.

While the Jags have been impressive offensively, South Dakota's (23-14) strength lies in its pitching staff as the Coyotes own an ERA of 2.51 in conference games to rank third in the league. Rachel Cue leads the Coyotes pitching staff with a 1.95 ERA on the season, including a 2.10 ERA in Summit League action. She leads the conference in complete games with six in league play, and is third in strikeouts with 39.

Offensively, Yvon Minogue leads USD in hitting at a .364 clip, while Allie Daly has hit a team-leading six homers while being tied with Morgan Hancock for the team lead in RBI with 26.

Since the Coyotes joined the Summit League back during the 2011-12 season, IUPUI is 2-4 against South Dakota.
