INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI softball team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Friday as it dropped a Summit League doubleheader to North Dakota State at the IUPUI Softball Complex.

IUPUI had an opportunity to win Game 1 in the bottom of the seventh, but after failing to put a run across the plate with the bases loaded and nobody out, NDSU struck in the ninth to win Game 1 before scoring seven times in the seventh in Game 2 to win 11-4.

Game 1 was a pitcher's duel from the start. Both teams went scoreless through the first four innings and managed just one hit apiece as Jocelyn Oppenhuis and Krista Menke both were in control of their pitches.

In the bottom of the fifth, IUPUI took a one-run lead on an Eryn Dillon solo home run to right field, but that lead quickly evaporated in the top of the sixth when the Bison scored one run on one hit to knot the score at 1-1.

With the score still tied at 1-1, the Jags had an opportunity to win the game in the bottom of the seventh when Taylor Chitwood, Roni Patterson and Angela Bartucci all reached base via singles to load the bases with nobody out. A fielder's choice eliminated a runner at home keeping the bases loaded with one out, but consecutive strike outs sent the game into extra innings.

Both teams put zero's on the board in the eighth, but a Cheyenne Garcia solo homer to left field in the ninth gave NDSU its first lead of the game, 2-1. In the last half of the ninth, the Jags went down in order handing the Bison the opener.

In Game 2, the Jaguars spotted the Bison a four-run lead before rallying for a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie things up. Chitwood and Patterson each singled to start the inning, but Chitwood was replaced by Alyssa Matson following her single. A wild pitch put both runners in scoring position and two batters later a Megan Cory single plated Matson to cut the deficit to 4-1. A sacrifice fly ensued from Lindsey Richards to trim the Jags deficit in half, 4-2.

After a scoreless NDSU sixth, Patterson delivered a two-out, two-run homer to center in the bottom of the sixth to bring IUPUI all the way back and tie the score at 4-4.

Unfortunately for the Jags, the first six batters for the Bison all scored before IUPUI recorded an out in the seventh and when all was said and done North Dakota State scored seven runs on seven hits in the final frame to take an 11-4 advantage.

IUPUI couldn't put anything together in the bottom of the inning and NDSU finished off the seven-run victory.

IUPUI and NDSU are set to play the finale of the three-game set at Noon on Saturday, March 29, at the IUPUI Softball Complex. However, due to forecasted inclement weather in the Indianapolis area on Saturday, the game time could be adjusted. Also, because of the poor forecasted weather, IUPUI's Alumni Day festivities have been postponed for a date to be named later. Fans are encouraged to check back with IUPUIJags.com for updates on Saturday's game time.
