JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior
Jose Pablo Segurola continued his strong start to the spring schedule as the Spaniard leads the Don Benbow Invitational, being played this week at the par-71 Jacksonville Beach Golf Club.
Segurola shot a 4-under 68 on Monday (Mar. 10), helping the Jaguars sit tied for second among the 12-team field. Evansville carded an opening round 293 and both IUPUI and Florida Atlantic are three shots back at 296. Cleveland State (298), Drake (300) and Summit League foe Western Illinois (300) round out the tournament's top half.
Segurola is coming off his first collegiate tournament win, having won the Frito Lay Taco Bell Intercollegiate on Feb. 17, finishing at 1-over 145 (71-74). He'll take a three-shot lead into Tuesday's final round as Caleb Sibley (FAU), Brendon Byrne (Cleveland State) and Andrew Blackburn (Western Illinois) all shot 71s on Monday.
Junior
Santiago Ruiz turned in a 2-over 74 on Monday and is tied for tenth overall. Both
Rob van de Vin and
Austin Winings shot 5-over 77's. Sophomore
Rylan Porter shot a 9-over 81 in his first round of the spring.
Tuesday's final round is slated to begin at 8:00 a.m. Eastern.
