INDIANAPOLIS - It was another tough weekend for the Jaguars. A blowout loss to Toledo followed up by a close loss to crosstown rival Butler pushes their record to 2-11 and their losing streak to eight. It will prove a challenging season from this point with their home schedule complete.
"We are on the road the rest of the year," said Head Coach
Brandon Currie. "This challenge will build character and show how our team handles adversity."
IUPUI's team record didn't improve this weekend, but several players added to their season win total.
Thomas Gans recorded the only win against Toledo at No. 4 singles on Saturday, giving him six wins on the season. On Sunday,
Jason Jaruvang and
Alex Toliver won at No. 1 and 2 singles respectively against Butler. Toliver's win tied him with Gans with six wins and Jaruvang's was his fourth of the season. Gans and
Jacob Bradley were in position to win their No. 2 doubles match against Butler, but the match was called due to Butler already clinching the doubles point.
Now the Jaguars look to their match against Dayton, a school they beat 4-3 a year ago, on Saturday. Jaruvang won at No. 1 singles with tiebreak victories in both sets and Gans came from behind to win his matchup at No. 5 singles 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. IUPUI also swept the doubles matches with Bradley at No. 1 doubles, Patrick O'Neill at No. 2 and Jaruvang at No. 3.
"We always have a great match with Dayton, and we can definitely expect a tough challenge this weekend," Currie said.
The Jaguars will start play immediately following the women's tennis team's match which starts at 1 p.m.
