Dr. Brandon Currie is entering his 17th season with the Jaguars Tennis program, and his 14th as head coach for the men’s squad.
Throughout his tenure, Currie has challenged his teams on the court playing one of the tougher schedules in the region year in and year out. The Jags have played multiple ranked opponents in each of the past three years, and have welcomed top-tier opponents such as Michigan State and Kentucky to its home court, the West Indy Racquet Club.
Currie guided his 2017-18 squad during its first year of Horizon League play and coached senior David Beasley to an All-Horizon League selection.
Currie has directed the Jags to six straight Summit League Tournament appearances, including three straight appearances in the Summit League Championship match from 2011-13.
In 2016, Coach Currie led IUPUI to a 4-1 record in the Summit League and earned his second-straight nod as the Summit League Coach of the Year. He landed a pair of All-Summit League selections in Jac Newis and Akshay Verma.
In 2015, Currie led IUPUI to a 5-1 record in The Summit League en route to being named Summit League Coach of the Season for the first time in his career. His 2015 squad featured four All-Summit League performers and the Summit League Newcomer of the Year.
In total, Currie has coached 15 All-Summit League performers in his 12 seasons as head coach, featuring a school-record four in 2015. Those 15 All-League performers have accumulated a total of 20 All-League selections, and Currie has also mentored three League Newcomers of the Year and one Summit League Player of the Year.
Prior to becoming the head coach during the 2005-06 campaign, Currie was an assistant for the Jaguars men’s team from 2003-05 and the women’s team from 2002-04. As an assistant with the women’s squad, he helped guide the Jaguars to consecutive Mid-Continent Conference titles and NCAA Tournament berths.
Currie, who played collegiately at nearby Butler University, graduated as the most prolific tennis player in school history holding school records for most singles and doubles wins. He was a First Team All-Conference by the Horizon League every year of his collegiate career and was the Horizon League Newcomer of the Year his freshman year. His final three seasons, the was named the Horizon League Player of the Year each season and his final season as a Bulldog was capped by being named the Butler Male Athlete of the Year.
During Currie's career, Butler captured Horizon League titles and participated in the NCAA Tournament three times. As a senior, Currie was ranked 30th nationally in doubles and 60th in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The Milwaukee, Wis.-native participated periodically in professional tournaments upon graduation, both locally and on the ATP Satellite circuit. He won the Pierson Ford Open in 2003 and the Tim and Tom Gullickson Memorial Tournament in 2004.
In the summer of 2015, Currie was inducted into the Brown Deer High School (Wis.) Hall of Fame and he was named to the Butler Hall of Fame in October 2016.
Currie completed his Doctorate at IUPUI in Urban Education in October 2015.
