PHILADELPHIA, Miss. - The IUPUI men's golf team opened the spring slate on Sunday (Feb. 16) at the Frito Lay Taco Bell Intercollegiate, posting a first day 315 at The Oaks Course at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club.
Missouri-St. Louis leads the 15-team field at 5-over 293 and Tennessee-Martin is second at 8-over 296. West Alabama (307), Southern Indiana (308) and Southern Illinois (309) made up the day's top five teams.
Junior
Jose Pablo Segurola looked to be in midseason form on Sunday, carding a 1-under 71 and is tied for fourth among the 85-player field. For the Spaniard, it was his eighth round of the season at par or better. Classmate
Santiago Ruiz closed at 4-over 76, but the rest of the lineup struggled on day one.
Senior
Rob van de Vin and junior
Derek Rohlfing both shot 12-over 84's and sophomore
Tyler Davis closed out the quintet at 13-over 85. Fellow sophomore
Bryce Very also shot an 85 while playing as an individual.
Three players are tied atop the leaderboard at 2-under 70 heading into Monday's final round. Final round play is slated to resume with a shotgun start on Monday (Feb. 17) morning.
