SOFTBALL PREPS FOR THREE-GAME SET AT AUSTIN PEAY

Jags and Governors open three-game series with a doubleheader on Sat., beginning at 1 p.m. ET

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – With one weekend of competition under its belt, the IUPUI softball team will travel south to take on Austin Peay in a three-game set in Clarksville, Tenn.

The Jaguars got off to a 2-3 start last weekend at the Total Control Sports Invitational at The Dome in Rosemont, while Austin Peay went 1-4 at the Mardi Gras Invitational, which included a loss to No. 22 South Alabama.

"I thought that overall we got off to a solid start last week, but we still have quite a bit of room for improvement," head coach Amanda Rivera said. "We started and finished the tournament on a good note, but lost some focus in the middle. This weekend, it will be important for us to be locked in for every pitch if we want to be successful."

Offensively, the Jaguars hit .292 as a team during the opening weekend highlighted by Alyssa Neff posting a .545 average. Roni Patterson was the leading run producer driving in five runs in five games, and she was one of five newcomers that saw action during the season-opening weekend.

In the circle, Jocelyn Oppenhuis led the team with a 3.62 ERA, but it was Cassie Vodde who picked up both wins for IUPUI. Vodde's 4.38 ERA in 16.0 innings of work is a little misleading as she threw a complete game in a 4-3 win over Drake and threw 5.2 innings of scoreless relief in a 5-2 win over Loyola-Chicago.

Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET, and the series finale on Sunday is slated for a 1 p.m. ET first pitch. All games will be played at Cheryl Holt Field. Live stats will be available for all games.
