LEMONT, Ill. - The IUPUI men's golf team left itself well within striking distance of capturing theJohn Dallio Memorial title after shooting 600 (298-302) on day one of the 54-hole tournament, being played at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club. The Jaguars trail only Missouri State by three strokes heading into Sunday's final round and lead third-place Green Bay by eight shots.
IUPUI shot a morning round of 298 on the strength of a 1-under 71 from junior
Jose Pablo Segurola before shooting 302 in the afternoon round. Overall, junior
Santiago Ruiz leads the way at 3-over 147 (74-73), thanks to 10 birdies on Saturday. Both Segurola and
Rob van de Vin are at 7-over 151 after two rounds. Segurola shot a second round 80 while van de Vin carded a 74-77.
Junior
Cole Adams, making his season debut, shot 11-over 155 (79-76) and had eight birdies on Saturday. Sophomore
Austin Winings rounded out the Jaguars' lineup at 158 (82-76).
IUPUI last won the tournament in 2010, shooting a 54-hole 890 (303-286-296). Former IUPUI standout
Ben Engle won the tournament by four shots with a 2-under 214.
SIU Edwardsville's Dalton Charboneau and Valpo's Joe Harris lead the 63-player field at 2-over 146, while Ruiz is among a four-way tie for third-place.
IUPUI players are scheduled to tee off at 8:24 p.m. on Sunday while the Jaguars will be paired with Green Bay and Missouri State.
