TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Following a Summit League series win over Oakland last weekend, the IUPUI softball team looks to continue its winning ways when it travels to Terre Haute, Ind., on Tuesday, April 9, for a doubleheader against in-state rival Indiana State.
The first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader between the Sycamores and Jaguars is set to begin at 4 p.m. ET, while Game 2 is scheduled for a 6 p.m. ET start.
“After a tough weekend against North Dakota State two weekends ago, we started to get back on track and really finished the week strong,” said head coach
Amanda Rivera. “The important thing for us is to continue to get better every day and execute our game plan on the field.”
The Jags went 3-3 last week, which included the program’s first-ever win over Purdue on Wednesday, April 3, before winning 2-of-3 games against Oakland.
The 3-3 performance moved IUPUI’s record to 14-18 overall and 5-7 in the Summit League.
Ali Mosier continued to swing a hot bat for the Jags with a .316 average in their six games last week, while
Jessica Lam broke out of a hitting slump by posting a .308 average after hitting just .071 during the previous six contests.
Additionally,
Emili Escamilla provided an extra boost offensively registering five hits in just three starts. Escamilla also earned one of the three IUPUI wins in the circle last week.
Jocelyn Oppenhuis paced the pitching staff in the six outings going 12.2 innings of work, while giving up just three earned runs and striking out 12 en route to a pair of victories. Her ERA of 1.66 for the week dipped her overall ERA to 2.69 on the season.
Indiana State enters the mid-week doubleheader with a 13-23 record after dropping two-of-three games at Drake last weekend. The Sycamores have three players hitting above .300 on the season led by Megan Stone’s .375 average. Stone leads the team with 16 extra base hits – including six home runs – and is one RBI shy of the team lead of 24 held by Shelby Wilson.
In the circle, Ashli Scott boasts a team-best 4.01 ERA and she has pitched a team-high 96.0 innings. As a staff, Indiana State owns a 5.01 ERA.
