INDIANAPOLIS—The IUPUI softball team took the final game in its series with Oakland on Saturday afternoon (April 6) at the IUPUI Softball Complex to win the series two games to one.

The win moves IUPUI to 14-18 on the season and 5-7 in Summit League play, while Oakland drops to 4-10-1 overall and 1-4 in Summit League play.

Oakland jumped on the board first in the top of the second inning, taking advantage of two IUPUI errors. Erika Polidori hit a hard ground ball to shortstop Morgan Schlobohm. Schlobohm bobbled the ball briefly and her throw to first base just missed catching Polidori. Polidori advanced to second on a sac bunt and scored when Sarah Hartley hit a ground ball to first base that went off Alicia Brewer’s glove.

Hartley advanced to second base when the throw was made home to catch Polidori. Alivia Nikolaus came to bat next and singled up the middle to score Hartley, concluding the Grizzlies’ scoring for the day.

The Jaguars answered back in the bottom of the second inning, and it scored the only three runs it would need to pull out the win. Brewer led off the inning with a hard hit ground ball to third base. Erin Galloway couldn’t handle it and her throw to first base was late. Jessica Lam advanced Brewer to second on a ground ball to second, followed by an Angela Bartucci single to score Brewer.

Bartucci advanced to second base on the throw home, and in the next at bat she was moved to third after Schlobohm grounded out to first base. Ali Mosier, one of the Jags lead hitters, doubled to right-center to score Bartucci.  Emili Escamilla kept the rally alive and hit a double over the leftfielder’s head to score Mosier and take the lead, 3-2.

Jocelyn Oppenhuis came into the circle in the top of the third and finished out the remainder of the game to gain the win. Oakland did not reach third base after scoring in the second inning. With the win, Oppenhuis moved to 4-7 on the season. She allowed only one hit, two walks and struck out five in her five innings.

Mosier led the Jags’ offense going 3-for-3, scored a run and tallied the game-tying RBI. Escamilla was 2-for-3, including the game-winning double.

Mosier, Bartucci and Lam all notched stolen bases in the win.

The Jags are back in action against Indiana State on April 9. The double-header will be played at Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind., with the first game beginning at 5 p.m.ET and the second game following at 7:30 p.m. ET
