BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Playing for the first time since finishing second at last week's Beu/Mussatto Invitational, the IUPUI men's golf team struggled with windy conditions, shooting 614 (308-316) on the first day of the NYX Hoosier Invitational at the IU Varsity Course on Saturday (Apr. 6).

Host Indiana leads the 18-team field after shooting 7-under 561 on Saturday, while Illinois State is second at 571. The Jaguars are 18th overall, three shots back of Wright State.

Sophomores Cole Adams and Santiago Ruiz led the Jaguars, both shooting 152 on day one. Adams carded back-to-back rounds of 76 while Ruiz opened with a team-best 75, followed by a 77 on his second 18. Both are tied for 52nd among the 90-player field.

IU's David Mills leads the field at 6-under 136 and Illinois State's Tyler Gentilella is second at 5-under 137.

Junior Rob van de Vin rebounded from a first round 84 by shooting 74 in his afternoon round and is 83rd at 158 (84-74). Both Matt Bruce and Austin Winings are one shot off his pace at 159 and tied for 84th.

Final round play will begin on Sunday (Apr. 7) with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
