KELLER, Texas - Despite carding a second round 327 at The Summit League Championships at Sky Creek Ranch Golf Course on an unseasonably cold Tuesday (Apr. 23), the IUPUI women's golf team was unable to make up ground and remains in fourth-place heading into Wednesday's final round. North Dakota State leads the nine-team field at 619 and Kansas City is second at 643.

Omaha (655), IUPUI (657) and Oakland (671) are the top five with 18 holes yet to be played.

Senior Jordan Essman led the Jaguars with a 6-over 78 on Tuesday, making four birdies over the course of the day. Essman started well, following up an early double bogey with back-to-back birides to get her round back to even after three holes. She was 1-over at the turn and ultimately finished her day at 78. She is tied for 19th overall entering Wednesday's final round at 167.

"She played well today," IUPUI Head Coach John Andrews said. "She made some birdies, which was good to see."

Junior Ana Fernandez de Mesa shot a second round 81 and is sits alone in fifth at 158 (77-81) through 36 holes. The Second Team All-Summit Leaguer finished strong, making birdies on two of her last three holes including a two on the 162-yard, par-3 17th.

"Ana made a really good birdie on 17, which I heard about from the Western (Illinois) coach," Andrews said. "I didn't get to see as much of her round as I would've liked, but the Western coach said it was well done."

Sophomore Yuri Otsuka matched the 81 after starting her day 1-under through five holes. Her only big number of the day was a double bogey on the short par-4 6th hole. Otsuka's day started with her breaking her driver on the range before the start of play, forcing her to play the first eight holes without a driver.

Seniors Lauren Kuss and Jordan Woods capped the Jags' lineup at 87 and 89, respectively. Kuss is tied for 19th at 167 (80-87) and Woods is tied for 28th at 173 (84-89) entering Wednesday's final round.

"I would like to see Kuss play well (tomorrow), just because she puts in so much hard work and is such a good kid," Andrews said. "I would love for Jordan Woods to go out and shoot 74, just so she can feel good about the (tournament) experience. I would love nothing more than to see that tomorrow."

North Dakota State's Amy Anderson, who holds the national record for career tournaments won, shot a 1-over 73 and leads the field by four shots at 149 with 18 holes remaining. South Dakota State's Morgan Fitts is second at 153.

The Jaguars will be paired with Oakland and Western Illinois for Wednesday's final round and will begin teeing off when Otsuka goes out at noon Eastern.
