KELLER, Texas - Freshman Austin Winings provided one of the few brights spots for the IUPUI men's golf team at The Summit League Championships on Tuesday (Apr. 23), shooting a 4-over 76 to climb to 17th on the leaderboard heading into Wednesday's final round.

As a team, IUPUI carded a score of 322 and is eighth of nine teams with a score of 635. Kansas City leads the field at 593 and South Dakota is second at 597. South Dakota State (605) and Western Illinois (606) fill out the top four spots.

"They've got some room to grow," IUPUI Head Coach John Andrews said of his team. "Inconsistent would be the term I would use to describe them, and that's been the case all year. They're about where they were seeded, which is not unexpected."

Kansas City's Antoine Rozner leads the field at even-par 144 (69-75) and Western Illinois' Nate Davis is second at 1-over 145 (71-74).

Winings, like many of his teammates, was able to make birdies on the back nine on Tuesday after an otherwise slow start. All total, Winings made five birdies in round two and played the back nine at 1-under 35 after shooting 41 on his first nine. The IUPUI freshman sits at 154 (78-76) with 18 holes yet to be played.

"Austin Winings made five birdies, which was really nice," Andrews said. "Now, I can't tell you if he's ever made five birdies and not shot even par in that round."

Junior Rob van de Vin struggled from the outset, shooting 43 on the front nine before recovering to shoot 37 on the back nine to finish his day at 8-over 80. The native of the Netherlands is tied for 25th overall at 157 (77-80).

The Jaguars' second freshman, Jordan Lenard, sits in 32nd place at 160 (77-83) and sophomore Santiago Ruiz originally shot a second round 83, but later had his round thrown out for an illegal drop on the 12th hole (79-DQ). The disqualification ultimately cost the Jaguars two strokes in team scoring and dropped IUPUI from a seventh-place tie into sole possession of eighth place.

Fellow sophomore Cole Adams rounds out the Jaguars' lineup at 164 (79-85). Adams had a stretch of birdie-birdie-double bogey-birdie during a four-hole span on Tuesday after struggling early in his round.

"He's had a good year," Andrews said. "He needs to continue to make the next move to become a really good, consistent player. I think another summer of competitive golf will be really good for him, just to be out there playing."

The Jaguars will be in the first group out on Wednesday with Adams slated to tee off at 9:00 a.m. Eastern. IUPUI will be teamed with Omaha and Fort Wayne for final round action.
